Emotional interference and attentional processing in premenstrual syndrome

2017

Abstract Background and objectives Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is characterized by menstrual cycle-related affective, behavioral, and/or somatic symptoms. By applying the emotional Stroop task (EST) the current study examined if changes in processing emotional information, which have been demonstrated in affective disorders, are also present in PMS. Methods Via online screening, telephone interviews, and daily records over two months 55 women for the PMS group (on the basis of the specific inclusion criteria and a prospectively confirmed PMS) and 55 ‘non-PMS’ controls were recruited. All participants completed three emotional Stroop tasks (EST) with neutral and negative word, picture, and f…

In vivo ultrasound real-time motion of the cervical spine during intubation under manual in-line stabilization: a comparison of intubation methods

2007

Background and objectiveIn emergency trauma situations, manual in-line stabilization of the cervical spine is recommended to reduce cervical spine movement during intubation. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of manual in-line stabilization during different intubation techniques on three-dimensional cervical spine movements and times to intubation.MethodsForty-eight subjects without any history of trauma, inflammatory or degenerative disorder of the cervical spine were randomly grouped, regardless of gender or age. All underwent elective surgery under general anaesthesia. Under manual in-line stabilization, laryngeal intubation with Macintosh laryngoscope, intubating laryngeal…

Online detection of rem sleep based on the comprehensive evaluation of short adjacent eeg segments by artificial neural networks

1997

Abstract 1. 1. For scientific and clinical requirements the present objective is a robust automatic online algorithm to detect rapid eye movement (REM) steep from single channel sleep EEG data without using EMG or EOG information. 2. 2. For data preprocessing 20 seconds time periods of the continuous EEG activity are digitally filtered in 7 frequency bands. Then the RMS values of these filtered signals are calculated along segments of 2.5 seconds. The resulting matrix of RMS values is representing information on the power of the signal localized in time and frequency and serves as input to an artificial neural network. A pooled set of EEG data together with the corresponding manual evaluati…

Effects of Lorazepam on the automatic online evaluation of sleep EEG data in healthy volunteers.

1998

In earlier publications we described an automatic algorithm to detect rapid eye movement (REM) sleep from a single-channel EEG recording without using EMG or EOG information. This system consisted of an artificial neural network operating on the basis of preprocessed EEG data and was composed to provide a maximum of robustness for online applications. In the present study the influence of acute administration of lorazepam on the performance of the REM detection procedure was evaluated. Following an adaptation to laboratory conditions, sleep EEG data were obtained from healthy subjects in three nights each. On the evening of the second night the volunteers received a single dosage of 2.5 mg …

Effectiveness of a digital platform for sharing knowledge on headache management: a two-year experience

2018

It is crucial that all headache specialists receive adequate training. Considering the unsatisfactory results obtained with standard updating courses and the growing need for continuing professional education, a digital platform was developed as a training tool. The platform has been active since 1 October 2014. It is readily accessible to doctors by free registration. Users have access to all the material available on the platform, which includes scientific articles, e-books, presentations and images. Users can share their own material and clinical cases directly. At the time of this study, the platform had 37 users. In the second year following its launch 316 files were downloaded and fiv…

Identification of organic hydroperoxides and hydroperoxy acids in secondary organic aerosol formed during the ozonolysis of different monoterpenes an…

2009

On-line ion trap mass spectrometry (ITMS) enables the real-time characterization of reaction products of secondary organic aerosol (SOA). The analysis was conducted by directly introducing the aerosol particles into the ion source. Positive-ion chemical ionization at atmospheric pressure (APCI(+)) ITMS was used for the characterization of constituents of biogenic SOA produced in reaction-chamber experiments. APCI in the positive-ion mode usually enables the detection of [M+H](+) ions of the individual SOA components. In this paper the identification of organic peroxides from biogenic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by on-line APCI-ITMS is presented. Organic peroxides containing a hydroper…

A sustainable on-line CapLC method for quantifying antifouling agents like irgarol-1051 and diuron in water samples: Estimation of the carbon footpri…

2016

In this work, in-tube solid phase microextraction (in-tube SPME) coupled to capillary LC (CapLC) with diode array detection has been reported, for on-line extraction and enrichment of booster biocides (irgarol-1051 and diuron) included in Water Frame Directive 2013/39/UE (WFD). The analytical performance has been successfully demonstrated. Furthermore, in the present work, the environmental friendliness of the procedure has been quantified by means of the implementation of the carbon footprint calculation of the analytical procedure and the comparison with other methodologies previously reported. Under the optimum conditions, the method presents good linearity over the range assayed, 0.05-1…

An automated on-line multidimensional HPLC system for protein and peptide mapping with integrated sample preparation.

2002

A comprehensive on-line two-dimensional 2D-HPLC system with integrated sample preparation was developed for the analysis of proteins and peptides with a molecular weight below 20 kDa. The system setup provided fast separations and high resolving power and is considered to be a complementary technique to 2D gel electrophoresis in proteomics. The on-line system reproducibly resolved approximately 1000 peaks within the total analysis time of 96 min and avoided sample losses by off-line sample handling. The low-molecular-weight target analytes were separated from the matrix using novel silica-based restricted access materials (RAM) with ion exchange functionalities. The size-selective sample fr…

An Online Observer for Minimization of Pulsating Torque in SMPM Motors.

2015

A persistent problem of surface mounted permanent magnet (SMPM) motors is the non-uniformity of the developed torque. Either the motor design or the motor control needs to be improved in order to minimize the periodic disturbances. This paper proposes a new control technique for reducing periodic disturbances in permanent magnet (PM) electro-mechanical actuators, by advancing a new observer/estimator paradigm. A recursive estimation algorithm is implemented for online control. The compensating signal is identified and added as feedback to the control signal of the servo motor. Compensation is evaluated for different values of the input signal, to show robustness of the proposed method.
